Why do I have so many tablets?

Probably the only blog post that isn't SEO spam / written by AI.

Back in 2013, I bought a Nexus 10.

That was when Gorilla Glass was an amazing new invention, and it was super snappy.

Until it wasn't and I realized I prefer using a desktop + laptop setup.

Fast forward a few years later, I was gifted an iPad.

I found it to be very convenient to read books with, and I love the Books app on iOS.

Until I realized I don't really like it because it's a pain to lug around when traveling, along with my laptop, just to read books with it. Eventually, I just use the books app on my iPhone and my macbook to read.

Then I had to buy a Surface Go with a sim card as my dropshipping business got banned by Google Ads for some reason. I tried everything with support, and if you've ever tried to reach out to Google support, you will know they are no help. Not knowing why I was banned or what to do to remedy it after 3-4 months with a bunch of inventory sitting around 3PL warehouses, I made a new account where I'd run ads with:

  • A new business name
  • New credit card
  • New business address
  • New IP address / sim card
  • New business phone

And that worked for a while. Until my business "partner" embezzled a bunch of money from the joint account. By which I mean I funded the account and he used the money for his personal use. After that, I was no longer in the dropshipping business and hence that Surface Go isn't used anymore.

The other day

I was at my friend's place and saw he had a sleek Nest Hub on his counter, with a sleek display.

I had the idea to turn my old tablets into info displays.

But I didn't want to hunt down a bunch of apps for iOS, windows, and android. And have all of them have a very different look around the house. I searched for info display webapps but couldn't find any.

As I realized I probably needed a website anyway (since I don't want to host locally) for all 3 devices to work, I might as well make it available for everyone.

It's free...why?

Nobody would pay for this. And everyone knows B2C is a lost cause. If there's a lot of traffic so my server's being slow, I'll just add a bunch of ads to curb users and provide a paid tier for ad-free.

But if you use this and are worried about ads and payment, I wouldn't worry about this.

Most products never get viral and if it does, I assume this won't have many users for a very long time.
